Berchtold's New Operon D 760

High Tech OR Table

The split leg plates of the OPERON D 760 provide the surgeon with optimal access conditions during laparoscopic surgery.

Versatile, with premium construction and high capacity, the OPERON D 760 OR-Table guarantees ideal working conditions in the operating theatre with an extensive range of accessories and various mutually compatible leg plates. The surgeon can adjust the new OR-Table height by 440 mm for ergonomic working. Patients can be positioned flexibly on a surface of four modules. The table can support extremely obese patients weighing up to 450 kg.
The basic version of the table includes a head rest, and back and seat plates. The leg plate drive is available either in one piece as a standard or short version, or as split leg plates, ideal for laparoscopic abdominal surgery. The OPERON D 760 is suitable for all surgical aspects as well as for outpatient treatment. With a minimum height of 635 millimetres, a Trendelenburg position of 30 degrees and a tilt of up to 20 degrees, all major positions are easily achieved. Whether surgical procedures while standing or sitting are required, with its wide height adjustment range up to 1075 mm, the OPERON D 760 is ideal to meet the needs of surgeons at any time. An infinitely adjustable kidney elevator goes up to 75 millimetres in height.

The D 760 OR-Table has a safety system with foot pump and a separate control unit integrated into the table column. All electro-hydraulic driven surfaces are also equipped with collision protection.

The robust construction of the table, along with four hydraulic cylinders ensures secure positioning and optimal patient safety. This is also due to the 534 mm wide bearing surface. Special padding protects the patient from pressure sores. BERCHTOLD achieves this pressure ulcer prophylaxis by a pad of high-quality viscoelastic and thermoactive foam that adjusts to the body. The table is equipped with an X-ray cassette tunnel along its entire length, even over the column. This is fully integrated under the tabletop, so that for conventional X-rays there is no need for additional X-ray attachments. The carbon fiber imaging extension plate permits 1117 mm metal-free imaging and unrestricted imaging above 1626 mm.
The OPERON is adjusted by remote control. All functions are clearly laid out with keys on the user-friendly hand pendant. Comfort functions for all important patient positions are already programmed in. This makes the table intuitive and fast to use. Easy-moving rollers and the InstaDrive electro-hydraulic traction drive facilitate patient transport. This makes it easy to move and manoeuvre the table. Slow deceleration provides a high level of patient safety. The OR-Table has a serial interface that can be used for rapid and accurate status analysis, fault diagnosis or individual adaptation of parameters such as adjustment speeds. Operating staff can adjust the OPERON D 760 manually by foot pump and an additional hand pendant attached directly to the table column. Existing accessories from BERCHTOLD’s OPERON OR-Table range is compatible with the standard rails of the table and can be fully integrated.

Berchtold Illuminates Tuttlingen Hospital

s

"Operating Room 1 must be brought up to state-of-the-art technical standards". The clinic administration at the Municipal Clinic of Tuttlingen approached employees of Berchtold, the specialist for operating room equipment, with this concern in April 2008. It was no easy task, for the two-site clinic established as the result of a merger of the two clinics in Tuttlingen and Spaichingen in April of 2002 makes a point of placing highest demands on technical equipment.
Berchtold employees at the Competence Centre in charge of providing consultancy services and designing operating rooms worldwide came together and conferred on how to implement optimal re-modelling of the operating room, the goal being to meet the clinic¹s demands and equip the theatre with state-of-the-art technologies at a reasonable price and most of all in keeping with budget restrictions. It was quickly decided to invite the persons in charge of technical installations at the Tuttlingen Clinic to Berchtold¹s own showroom on Ludwigstaler Street to familiarise them with its SUPERSUITE® concept. SUPERSUITE® by Berchtold offers a perfect combination of all product lines for custom-tailored full-package operating room solutions. With the guidance of Florian Stritzel, director of the Competence Centre, a detailed work flow analysis was conducted to begin with. This
entailed an evaluation of the current configuration of space as well as aspects of rate of utilisation, the need for new medical devices and the activities of the OR team before, during and after operations. On the basis of this analysis, strengths and weaknesses of the current use of space were
determined and in a second step, plans for utilisation of space with optimal configuration of medical equipment were drawn up cooperatively with a view to improving ergonomy and streamlining work processes. Such 2-D room planning with subsequent 3-D visualisation from a 360°-perspective
ultimately convinced the hospital engineers.
Berchtold initiated remodelling measures in October 2008. Two HID gas-discharge lights of the CHROMOPHARE® E 655 series featuring an external camera system and 2 monitor supports now adorn the ceiling of Operation Room 1; with an excellent light intensity of 160,000 lux, they ensure optimal illumination of the entire operating field. Thanks to the low heat development of both surgical lights, which were successfully launched on the market only recently, in April 2008, they enable the surgeon to work comfortably by preventing temperatures from rising in the vicinity of his or her head. The newly installed suspension system also allows for flexible adjustment to future technologies. Two additional products from the expansive Berchtold product line now provide greater efficiency and better utilisation of the surgical facilities at the Tuttlingen Clinic in day-to-day clinical practice. The TELETOM® TS 520 and TC 720 equipment management systems, also equipped with two monitor supports, dispense with the need for video cart, cables and hoses on the floor and ensure that monitors, medical devices and connections can be placed at easy reach.
Operating room supervisor Martin Hauser said, ³The newly designed operating room, which is used in equal proportion for gynaecological and neurosurgical surgery, meets all the requirements of efficient operating room procedures.
Thanks to the new, decentralised ceiling mountings we are flexible and can adjust access to equipment as called for by the situation in the operating room. Due to enormous structural improvements, criteria for processes and results can be optimised for patients and personnel to a considerable degree. Only in this way can we continue to improve the high standards consistently achieved in the past few years,² Hauser says.
